Breast Augmentation

Breast implants are used to correct the effects of cancer treatment, to enhance breast size to better match your body proportions, to improve symmetry, and to enhance breast shape and restore volume after pregnancy and breastfeeding. This  is an outpatient surgical procedure that Dr. Fearmonti performs in an accredited ambulatory surgical center with a board-certified anesthesiologist. Risks associated with breast augmentation include scarring, bleeding, infections, changes in sensitivity, wrinkling of the skin over the area the implant is located, internal scarring around the implant (capsular contracture), and blood clots (deep venous thrombosis or pulmonary embolism) that could potentially be life threatening. Every safety precaution is thus taken. Most patients exchange their implants about every 10 years, as whether saline or silicone, implanted devices are not made to last forever. Reasons for implant exchange include implant failure/rupture, capsular contracture, and stretching of breast skin causing implant malposition. Exchange of implants requires an additional outpatient surgical procedure. There are several implant types and shapes available—not one size fits all. Pros and cons of each, incision placement, and size charts will be discussed at your consultation to ensure that you achieve your desired goals.
